Christine Caine What Was She "Awakening" At The Awakening Revival?
Stovall Weems and his Awakening Revival had its kickoff event this last Sunday night. As I detailed in the article The Awakening Revival, the next 5 nights are going to be an exciting mix match of heretical speakers. In other words, this is going to be a Maslowzation of Olympic proportions. Last night’s event was kicked off by pastrix Christine Caine of Hillsong Church Austria. If you are not familiar with Hillsong church, it is lead by Pastor Brian Houston who is heading up the seeker driven movement in Austria.
The first things that must be addressed and questioned when dissecting the Awakening Revival is; if Stovall Weems wants a revival that is committed to making God move in mighty ways, then why does he have a pastrix kickoff his revival? Either Weems wants to have a God honoring revival, or this is once again another ploy by a seeker driven pastor to promote his new book. Which by some strange coincidence is called Awakening? Sorry to say I fear the later to be more the case, especially considering the lineup of speakers on the docket.
Another answer to the posed question could be. Stovall Weems honestly thinks that what he is doing is God honoring and will insight a revival. If this is the case, then Weems’ creditably as a being a qualified teacher of the Word of God under Titus 1:5-9 has to be questioned. We are left with remarkably few options to for a solid reason to hold such a revival. All answers seem to lead to this not being a God centered or honoring revival.
After Weems introduced Christine Caine and prayed to have God “release himself upon everyone there”, Caine played true to her typical form of theatrics. As normal there was extremely little scripture given and when given it was significantly done so out of context. If you have ever heard Christine Cain teach before, which I have at a number of conferences, you will realize a couple of truths. This I have come to call the Caine Standard. First, there is the lack of Scripture and when given it is in the form of narcissistic eisegesis. Second, Christine plays a lot to the emotional card. This was decidedly much the case last night. Listening to Christine Caine speaks at events over the past years, I have noted she has a cookie cutter speech she gives to stir up the crowds for emotional responses. Her speech last night followed that same pattern. It played at her emotional past, using a pity card to get the audience feeling sorry for her, so she could manipulate their feels. Maslow’s chart of felt needs got its fill last night. She had the crowd wrapped up in an emotional roller coaster with herself in the front car baring down the tract of eisegesis.
While this emotional roller coaster ride does a lot to entertain, it nothing to revive a person. This brings me to the third Caine standard of teaching. No, Gospel, in fact, the opposite ensued the Law became the focal point of her preaching. Yes, the word “gospel” appeared a lot, and she told of the effects of the Gospel, but the actual Gospel never came to the surface. There was no Christ beaten, crucified, died on the cross, buried and rose again preached. Instead we Caine told us; if we do this than this will happen or if we act like this than we will be blessed. This excessive preaching of the law will do nothing to produce a revival, but instead it will make people sin even more. The law is a schoolmaster it is use to show us our sins and our need for the Gospel (Christ) it can only convict it will not save us.
Overall, last night was what I thought it would be. A revival disguised as a Godly event that talked nothing about Jesus, sin, the Gospel, or the need for Salvation. When the name of Jesus was mentioned it was done in a fashion equivalent to having Jesus tied up behind the stage. Bringing him out for a quick appearance and then quickly hiding him off stage again. The Awakening Revival is nothing more than a mere attempt to promote man over God by making man sovereign over God. Christine Cain did do one thing last night, she scratched a lot of itching ears.
