"As you navigate the story that is unfolding in your life, you’ll be quick to find that discouragement is everywhere. It seems that the harder you run after God, the harder the devil is going to try to prevent you from getting where you’re going. And all he really has to do to trip us up is drop one little hint of discouragement in our ears.
( Problem here the devil does not run around chasing us whispering discouragement in our ears. We are born into sin, we have a sinful nature. There is 22 verse in the New Testament that deal with our sinful nature. NONE of this state that the devil is chasing us around. )
You’re a terrible father.
You’ll never be any better than this.
(News Flash; We are all of these things and much more. It's called sin Steven sin. We know you actually never preach on the subject but that is what it's called. Romans 3:10-13 says it well. NO ONE.. NO ONE seeks after God on his own.)
He’s said it to me and I know that he’s said it to you. The worst part is, the devil doesn’t necessarily speak in complete lies. He gives us half-truths with just enough reality to hit us between the eyes.
(Furtick is right here. The devil doesn't necessarily speak in complete lies otherwise no one would follow him. This is why false teachers like Furtick (Acts 20:28) are so convincing and get so many followers. They speak half truths and tickle peoples ears with sweet doctrince that is pleasing to the sinful nature of man.)
But here’s an easy way that you can overcome those conniving schemes:
Finish the devil’s sermons.
( Really, we are to "Finish the devil's sermons"? Do you have any Scripture for this Mr. Furtick? I believe you don't because the bible tells the opposite we are to flee the devil in James 4:7. We are not to rebuke, confront, or hold conversations with the devil, we are only to flee from him.)
It’s simple. The devil is only giving you half of the truth—give him the other half.
(Furtick is right there is a half truth given here. The half truth is coming as normal in the form of narcissistic eisegesis from Steven Furticks teachings.)
Yes, I am unworthy. I am absolutely nothing without Christ. But thankfully, He died so that I may become a new creation, void of you and full of the purpose that He has for my life.
(Furtick is right here, but again we don't need to be telling the devil this. As Christians we where called to Christ before the foundations of the world. We called to salvation, Acts 13:48. When we become saved in Christ we don't need to tell the devil this, he knows.)
No, I may not be a perfect father, but I am loved unconditionally by a perfect father who breathed the stars yet knows the number of hairs on my head. And He’s making me more like Him every day.
You’re right. on my own accord, I can’t do any better than this. But I am not doing this by myself—I serve the LORD, who is able to do immeasurably more than I could ask or imagine.
You don’t have to be Charles Spurgeon to preach the devil out of your life. The name of Jesus alone is enough to send your enemy running for the hills.
(Correct you don't have to be Charles Spurgeon to preach the devil out of your life because we are not called to do so in the bible. NO WHERE again do the bible say we are to preach the devil out of the bible.)
The devil will always try to show you the downside of your story. Make him pay. Show him who Jesus says you are."
( Remember as Furtick teaches at Elevation church it's all about "your story". Sorry but, NO and NO Steven it's not about "your story", it is about JESUS CHRIST. The bible is not about YOU or ME Steven it's about Christ and Christ alone.
Well also according to Furtick we are suppose to make the devil Pay? Really, bible verse please? So know we are little gods and have the authority to make the devil pray. Sounds like some new age mystical teaching going on here. No were in scripture are we told it's our job to make the devil pay. We are told the opposite that Christ will make the devil and his followers pay in the lake of fire, it's not for us to be doing.
In conclusion what we have here in this blog post by Furtick is a clear and out right attempt to rewrite and twist scripture. No one ever should call himself a pastor when one handles the Word of God so poorly. He attempts to equivocate authority on to us that is meant only for our Lord Jesus Christ. He also goes to the point of exceeding what is written in scripture by reading us into places were it is clearly Christ place too be in Scripture. This blog post is typical of the teaching or mis-teachings of Steven Furtick and his Elevation Church. This is only one example of his poor handling and his Narcigesis handling of bible texts.
