Why Did Jesus Die For Our Sins
Why did Christ have to die on the Cross? This should be a very easy question to answer. However, today many churches and Pastors teach that Christ died on the Cross for various reasons that are not biblical. They have strayed away from the biblical and Scriptural answers and have gone for more emotional and self-glorifying pursuits.
For example Mark Batterson Pastor of Nation Community Church (NCC) in Washington D.C. teaches the following; “Jesus didn't die on the cross to make us safe. He died to make us dangerous.” [1]
Rest assured that Jesus did not die on the Cross to make us “dangerous.” This teaching by Mark Batterson is outright blasphemy and is heretical.
Another example of a heretical teaching of why Jesus died on the Cross comes from author, teacher and Pentecostal women pastor, Joyce Meyers. She has said the following about Jesus dying on the Cross; “During that time He entered hell, where you and I deserved to go (legally) because of our sin….He paid the price there.…no plan was too extreme…Jesus paid on the cross and in hell….God rose up from His throne and said to demon powers tormenting the sinless Son of God, “Let Him go.” Then the resurrection power of Almighty God went through hell and filled Jesus….He was resurrected from the dead ¾ the first born-again man.”[2]
Finally, her assertions are not unlike those of leading Word of Faith proponent Kenneth Copeland. He also believes Christ’s death on the cross was not sufficient to atone for our sins. He teaches that Christ’s work of redemption was completed by suffering in hell and being born again.
As you can see by these examples there are many false teaching being promoted by various false teachers on the subject of why Jesus died for our sins and His atoning work on the Cross. So than what is the right answer to why did Christ have to die on the Cross for His Sheep? As I stated earlier the answer to this is relative easy question to answer. Basically, the reason Jesus had to die for our sins is so that we could be forgiven and go to be with the Lord. Since Jesus is God in flesh as stated in John 1:1,14 and in Col. 2:9 only God can satisfy the Law requirements of a perfect life. We cannot do so by our actions so the perfect sacrifice that cleanses us of our sins is Jesus Christ and His atoning work on the Cross.
A deeper answer to the question why Jesus died on the Cross can be found when we look at the Godhead in it's completeness. God ultimately sent His Son Jesus to die to glorify Himself. Even if not one single person was to be called to election through the atoning work done on the Cross by Christ, God would have been glorified by Christ's atonement. The mere fact that God has called some to salvation through the blood of Christ shed on the Cross is mercy within it's self.
As shown above the answer is pretty straight forward and simple. One does not need elaborate man centered teachings and reasons why Christ had to die for His elect. The answer is presented very simply in the Word of God.
