Are they following the God of the Bible, or are they following the God of their own making?
As I sit here typing this blog posting same-sex marriage (sodomy) has been legal for just over 48 hours. For many people, this has been about just enough time for the shock of the Supreme Court's ruling to wear off. While the Supreme Court's ruling will have many far-reaching effects still not yet realized. Even those judges who have perpetrated this crime against the Constitution and the standard of marriage for over two millennia have no real idea just how far they have pushed society down the scale of immorality and decadence. For many the Supreme Court's ruling may have come as a surprise, in reality and biblically speaking this was no surprise. For years now, Christians have allowed and elected corrupt and immoral leaders into political offices. This latest ruling by the Supreme Court is only a mere sign of the corruptness and immorality of past actions. Unregenerate leaders that are corrupt and immoral can and only will make decisions that favor the continuance of the corruption and immoral activities.
What I find more shocking than the Supreme Court's ruling is the reaction by so many supposed "Christians.” If you have been watching social media over the last 48 hours, you may have seen the countless number of “Christians” that have joined in the celebration of same-sex marriage. These are the same people that claim Christ to be their Savior. How can this be? How can those who claimed the name of Christ also celebrate in something as immoral as same-sex marriage? Those who claim Christ cannot celebrate in the normalization of an abomination and denigration of marriage in the Lord's eyes.
Now I have seen and spoke with many of these supposed Christians that try to justify their celebration of the denigration of marriage. They claim that we are to love the sinner, not the sin. While this sounds wonderful and quite pleasing, it's not true. You will look long and hard in the Bible and come up empty-handed with Scriptures that tells us to do this. The Bible tells us the opposite to flee from sin, to have no allegiance to sin, or to partake and sin (Roms 6:14-20; 1 Tim 5:22).
Some supposed Christians have even stated that Jesus said nothing about homosexuality so neither should we. While they are partially right, Jesus never directly mentions the word "homosexuality." Jesus did have a lot to say on the subject of marriage. Jesus may not have used the word homosexuality directly, but he did teach in Matthew 19:4 – 5 that marriage is between one man and one woman. Now the word marriage appears 29 times in the Bible. In every example of marriage in the Bible, marriage is between a man and a woman. It is never between a man a man or a woman and a woman. So for those who say that Christ never mentioned the subject of homosexuality therefore we do not need to address. Remember this, all of Christ's teachings on the topic of marriage spoke against homosexuality by example.
When we understand what the Bible actually teaches about marriage, about sex, about sin, and our responsibilities as Christian we begin to understand the following. How can one that claims to be a Christ follower partake in the celebration of immorality? The truth of the matter is that if one is truly a Christ follower they will not participate in the celebration of such a sinful and denigrating act of same-sex marriage. The Bible is clear in John 7:4 that we are able to make righteous judgments based on a person’s actions. We also see in Matthew 7:20 that we are allowed to make the judgment of an individual's fruit. This is speaking doctrinally, that we are able to judge them and know them and whether or not one is regenerate or unregenerate by the fruit they bear. A good tree will bear good fruit. A bad tree will bear bad fruit. We also see in 1Corinthians 11:19 that there must be factions among us to know the right from wrong. So again, we are told to make a judgment to know the truth.
So I leave you with these question; Is a person that claims to be a Christ follower, but celebrates the joys of the legalization of same-sex marriage really a Christ follower? Are they following the God of the Bible, or are they following the God of their own making? Are they showing the fruit of a person that has a regenerated heart?
