Luke 14:25Now large crowds were going along with Him; and He turned and said to them, 26“If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. 27“Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. 28“For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it? 29“Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule him, 30saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ 31“Or what king, when he sets out to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and consider whether he is strong enough with ten thousand men to encounter the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32“Or else, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. 33“So then, none of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions.
What does it cost? This is something that I have been asking myself over the past couple of months. I have been searching the scriptures and praying for an answer to that simple but thoughtful question. My answer can to me in searching the Word of God (Mark 10:17-31). It's really as simple as the question itself, what will it cost? It will cost you everything or it may cost you nothing. By looking closer at the answer we see the real key is that you have to be willing to lose everything, money, friends, even family, or your life to really follow Christ, (Mat 10:32-37). God may not require that of you, or He may, but you have to be willing to give it all up for too follow Him.
With that said, that is easier to say than to do in today’s culture. We are faced with either paying a cost for our beliefs or following the masses in an easy believerism faith that others no real satisfaction and does not offer true salvation. Many churches today and pastors have taken the easy road and are preaching a gospel light sermon, feel good topics and offering a cosmic genie Jesus that is far from the Jesus of the Scriptures and that Jesus that saves.
It is our Job as true followers of Christ who know the real Gospel and are willing to pick up the Cross and carry for our fellow Christians that are being deceived into a false Christianity that will lead them to gates of hell. This is part of paying the fee of truth, we can not sugar coat things for people we must tell them if they are not following the true Gospel, just as Paul did to the Corinthians. Doing this will cost you, acceptance by many who feel that you are too over zealous, Just as it cost Paul. Jesus warned us that this would happen in Matthew 10. I look at this way, what if someone was going to drive a car that you knew the brakes were out, what extent would you go to in making sure that they would not drive that car in order to save their life. This is the same in the telling someone the truth if they are believing in a Gospel light version of the True Gospel. The only difference is if we say nothing the cost is far more than just a person’s life, its their eternal life that is at stake.
We must remember as Christians to do all things in love and in accordance to the scriptures. Also we must pray before doing any type of witnessing, pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you and strengthen you. We must not attack or do things in hate. It will be a hard load to bear because when you confront people that will attack you for your message with words and even physically, but show them the love that Jesus showed people when He was miss treated. Stand strong in your faith and don’t waver from the truth, but do it with love and boldness that comes from the Holy Spirit.
