Well it seems that James MacDonald has done it once again, putting his preverbal foot in his mouth once more. As if MacDonald’s attempt at an ecumental counsel with ER 2 was not bad enough with trying to push T.D. Jakes off as a Trinitarian Brother in Christ in the same of unity. . This time he was able to accomplish the same type of disunity on Twitter. With one simple tweet he was able to pit Christian Brother against Christian Brother. Of course I'm sure this was done for the sake of unity and brotherly love, here that sarcasm?
As you can see in the above screen capture of James McDonald's tweet he has taken the liberty of trying to redefine what fundamentalism is. Is this redefining of the term accidental? Being that James MacDonald is a well-educated, clever and purposeful person one should highly doubt this redefining of terms to be an accident. In this Tweet MacDonald has accomplished a very simple but purposeful attack on those who disagree with him or any of theological positions. He has taken the mean of fundamentalism and made it fit the agenda of his Vertical Church movement. This agenda is very simply to promote unity of the church body above sound doctrine.
What does the bible say about unity over doctrine? The bible is very clear on this topic in 1 Corinthians 11:19 where it states:
"for there must be factions among you in order that those who are genuine among you may be recognized.”
This passage simply put shows us that there is to be factions and divisions among us in order to prove what is right and what is wrong. By MacDonald trying to promote unity over doctrine and calling those who hold to fundamentalism separatist by "adding bricks in the barricade of needless separation" he is actually contradicting Scripture. MacDonald in his attempt to pacify and unify and deny Scripture has actually played the role of proving Scripture. We are now able to see the falsehood of what James MacDonald promotes and teaches every more now from his little Tweet.
This slide of hand and redefining has taken you and me, bible believing Christians, who hold to the “fundamentals” of the Christian faith and turned doing so into a dirty separatist movement. You and I are now the ones that are marked for causing division and disunity, when in reality its MacDonald’s redefining of terms to fit his agenda that is causing disunity. By taking and reclassifying what a fundamental is and making it so general in its description MacDonald is able now to take anyone who disagrees with him and label them with this dirty name. In a way this attempt to shun those Christians, like myself, who hold to biblical theology by marginalizing them and making us seem as outsiders.
MacDonald’s attempt while semi-powerful is doomed to failure for one major fact. While he attempts to separate and marginalize those who speak out against him by redefining terms giving the impression that those who don’t think like him are few and far between. The reality of the matter is that those separated Brothers and Sisters of the faith are truly more in number than those who claim a seat of fellowship at MacDonald’s ecumental Counsel of unity. In other words, MacDonald you and your redefining of terms is not fooling the true followers of Christ that make up the remnant body of believers. While this type of mantra is sure to be the new craze among all the seeker friendly churches and pastors, it too will past and be laid aside in the dust as another failed attempt to be relevant.
While MacDonald may be able to redefine terms and push his agenda of unity over doctrine on those weak in the faith or not of the faith. His days are numbered among those in Christianity that know what they believe, why they believe and for whom they believe in; our fundamental purpose of our faith Jesus Christ.
