Bible word for Satan (diablos) means "slander" which is Satan's job. Bloggers who slander others do Satan's work for him!
Over this past weekend at Empowered by Christ we posted a Tweet by Rick Warren on November 29th at 9:07 pm. (Which is quoted above.) It seems that Rick Warren has taken a break from his latest media blitzes in promoting the revamped version of The Purpose Driven Life and is out to try to discredit anyone who criticizes him, his book, or his ministry.
This time Rick Warren went on an ad hominid attack calling Bloggers that slander others basically workers of the devil. The problem is not that Rick Warren is against those who do such things, but more that he has grouped all bloggers into this one camp. He has not separated those who are out for doing the work of the devil from those who are working for the Kingdom of God. What Mr. Warren has done here is committed a genetic fallacy by grouping all bloggers together into one camp. One could logically conclude from Rick Warren's Tweet the following; he feels that anyone who raises any question, concern, or disapproval about Rick Warren's teachings, methodology, or theological position is working for the devil.
Here at Empowered by Christ we have made it a practice of not engaging in ad hominid attacks or what is known as "yellow journalism.” Instead, we focus on discussing and debating over doctrinal and theological issues, not attacking the person-hood of a particular person. Our mission here at Empowered by Christ is to uplift, educated and help you defend your faith, knowing what you believe and why you believe it. In doing so, sometimes we need to name names and call out pastors and leaders in the Christian establishments. However, when doing so we always make sure to be fair, honest, and stay away from the personal name calling and attacks on a person's character.
This latest Tweet by Rick Warren is just another example that goes to prove Warren’s unwillingness or inability to confront, discuss or even acknowledge issues of controversy with people who disagree with him. It is much easier for Rick Warren to group all people who disagree with him as bloggers who work for Satan, live in their mother’s basement eating Cheetos, drinking Mountain Dew and have no life. We should not be surprised by comments like this from Rick Warren or other Emergent/Seeker Driven churches. This type of mantra is very common and is part of the unwritten EC/SD playbook. Within the EC/SD movements you are either on board with that pastor’s or leader’s vision or you are forced to leave. If you choose not to leave, prepare to have the bus backed over you to make you leave.
As for what Rick Warren will do next, who knows? As for the future, Rick Warren is sure to make more ad hominid attacks towards his criticizers. As for us here at Empowered by Christ we will be here to expose those attacks by teachers like Rick Warren or others in the EC/SD movement.
