It seems to be everywhere we turn today more and more and it's not going to go away. It is about time that as God fearing Bible believing followers of Christ we address this issue head on with the authority that is given to us in the bible to address such an issue with the power of the Jesus. The topic that I am referring to is the Cross and Homosexuality more specificity I am talking about can a person call themselves a believer and still engage in a homosexual lifestyle? This is a very tough subject to discuss because emotions can run very high.
We need to approach the subject with love and gentleness but with the firmness of what the bible says on this subject not what our "feeling" dictate. Just because someone is a homosexual does not mean that we cannot love him (or her) or pray for him (her). Homosexuality is a sin and like any other sin, it needs to be dealt with in the only way possible. It needs to be laid at the cross, repented of, and never done again. As a Christian, you should pray for the salvation of the homosexual the same as you would for any other person in sin. The homosexual is still made in the image of God, even though he or she is in grave sin. Therefore, you should show him the same dignity as anyone else with whom you come in contact. This does not mean that you are to approve of their sin but giving a testimony to the love that Jesus Christ can offer to them if they repent and turn from their sin.
Now lets look at what the bible says about homosexuality. We are going to examine two verse here 1 Cor 6: 9-10 and Romans 1:26-28 he bible is very clear on this subject and it's not my feeling or my interpretation but what the word of God says as we will see.
Let us first look at 1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,110nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."
The word "homosexual" in the NASB version is the Greek aρσενοκοίτης arsenokoites). It occurs two times in the New Testament. The KJV translates it as abuser of (ones) self with mankind once, and defile (ones) self with mankind once. 1 one who lies with a male as with a female, sodomite, homosexual. (Strong, J. (1996). The exhaustive concordance of the Bible : Showing every word of the test of the common English version of the canonical books, and every occurrence of each word in regular order. (electronic ed.) (G733). Ontario: Woodside Bible Fellowship.) The 1901 ASV, the KJV, translate it as "abusers of themselves." The NASB and NKJV translate it as "homosexuals." The NIV as "homosexual offenders." The RSV as "sexual perverts."
Now let us look at what Romams. 1:26-28 says about the topic. "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper."
As we see from these verses homosexuality is clearly condemned by the Bible. Homosexuality goes against the created order of God by denying the fact that God created Adam and then made a woman. By His creating Adam and than Eve this demonstrates what God has ordained and it is what is right and the correct order of Federal Headship.
Homosexuality is not like other sins, it has a severe judgment administered by God Himself. This judgment is simple and given in scripture. They are given over to their passions. That means that their hearts are allowed to be hardened by their sins Romans 1:18ff ~ "18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,"
As a result, they can no longer see the error of what they are doing. Without an awareness of their sinfulness, there will be no repentance and trusting in Jesus. Without Jesus, they will have no forgiveness. Without forgiveness, there is no salvation.
The very fact that homosexuals can not see the error of their way and have been give over to their sinful desires is why you have so many people claiming to be "Christians" and still practicing this lifestyle. If a person refuses to repent of a sin long enough God will give that person over to that sin as judgement. They have blinded and no longer can see what they are doing is sinful and going against God. In this politically correct climate that relinquishes morality to the relativistic whims of society, stating that homosexuals should not marry is becoming unpopular.
With that said this why many of the mainstream church denominations in America today do not have the spiritual discernment nor the dedication to God's inspired word to do what is right. They lost their luster to stand firm on the word of God and with love correct this growing movement towards mingling the Cross of Christ with the sin of Homosexuality. Instead they are more worried about offending someone or what society will think about them instead of standing for God and what is biblical and correct. Remember theology does matter and what we think about God and allow to go forth does have ramifications for us and our children. Either we stand for what is right and teach what is right or we have no room to complain when what is sinful passes for truth.
